Background of the Study
The mobile banking revolution has significantly altered the way financial services are delivered in Nigeria. Heritage Bank has prioritized mobile app interface improvements to enhance the overall digital banking experience and drive user adoption. By redesigning its mobile application to be more intuitive, user-friendly, and visually appealing, the bank aims to address common usability issues that have previously hindered customer engagement (Adebayo, 2023). Enhanced interface features such as streamlined navigation, faster load times, and personalized dashboards are central to creating a seamless digital experience that meets the evolving expectations of tech-savvy users.

Heritage Bank’s approach involves leveraging user feedback and usability testing to continuously refine its mobile app. This customer-centric strategy ensures that the app remains accessible to a diverse user base, including those with limited digital literacy. The integration of biometric authentication and real-time notifications further enhances security and convenience, making digital banking more attractive to a broader audience (Okoro, 2023). These interface improvements not only contribute to higher user satisfaction but also increase transaction volumes and overall bank efficiency, thereby positioning Heritage Bank as a leader in digital innovation within the Nigerian banking sector.

However, despite these improvements, challenges persist in achieving widespread adoption of digital banking services. Issues such as intermittent network connectivity, the digital divide in rural areas, and occasional technical glitches continue to impact user experience. This study seeks to appraise the effectiveness of mobile app interface improvements in enhancing digital banking usage at Heritage Bank, by evaluating user satisfaction, engagement metrics, and overall adoption trends.

Statement of the Problem
Even with significant investments in mobile app interface improvements, Heritage Bank faces challenges in achieving uniform digital banking adoption. One major issue is the variability in user experience across different devices and operating systems, which can lead to inconsistent performance and user frustration (Chukwu, 2023). Additionally, while interface upgrades have improved navigation and visual appeal, gaps remain in addressing the needs of digitally inexperienced customers, particularly in rural regions where digital literacy is low.

Technical issues such as app crashes, slow response times during peak usage, and occasional security concerns further contribute to reduced user confidence. Moreover, the high cost and frequent need for app updates pose financial and operational challenges that can temporarily disrupt service continuity. These problems are compounded by the rapidly evolving technological landscape, which requires Heritage Bank to continuously invest in app development and support services. This study aims to identify the key challenges that limit the full potential of mobile app interface improvements in enhancing digital banking usage, and to propose strategies for overcoming these obstacles to maximize user adoption and satisfaction.

Objectives of the Study

  • To evaluate the impact of mobile app interface improvements on digital banking usage at Heritage Bank.
  • To identify challenges that affect user experience and app performance.
  • To recommend strategies for enhancing app usability and increasing adoption rates.

Research Questions
